The curriculum at Ffynone is dynamic and interesting. Expert teachers inspire by focusing on their particular passions as well as catering for our changing world and the interests of our students. Our small classes allow for great flexibility in terms of following threads that appeal to students and lead to lively discussion of the world around us.
Primary
At Ffynone Primary, our engaging curriculum sparks curiosity and a love of learning from the very beginning. With small class sizes, teachers nurture each child’s interests, encouraging exploration, lively discussion, and discovery within the supportive Ffynone family.

Ffynone is unique in the local area in delivering a curriculum tailored to the English examination boards at GCSE. This means:
The majority of students take both English Language and English Literature
The iGCSE courses allow them to complete coursework for 40% of each course and take an early exam for Literature in the November of Year 11. Equally, with iGCSE Maths, when students have opted for additional Maths, they can sit the exam at the end of Year 10.
Pupils choose a full 4 academic options at GCSE
We offer a varied range of GCSE subjects.
Separate sciences continue to be offered alongside combined sciences at GCSE
This provides the depth and breadth of knowledge necessary for pursuing the study of Science at A Level and beyond.
Languages at GCSE are popular
Students can choose French, German or Latin, or a combination of two of them, when possible.
Years 7-9
Students in Years 7 to 9 have 4 lessons each per week of Maths, English and Science. In addition, our curriculum includes Geography, History, Drama, Music, Computing, Art and PE as part of a compulsory timetable. Uniquely, all our younger students also take German, French and Latin.

GCSE
At GCSE, in addition to studying the core subjects, pupils choose 4 options, giving them a total of 10 subjects. Most follow English exam boards (grades 9-1). We continue to offer Separate Sciences alongside the Combined Sciences qualification. English Literature and English Language remain separate qualifications at Ffynone. Options available at GCSE that are not taught in Years 7-9 include Dance, Business Studies and Additional Mathematics.
