Admissions

Ffynone House is a non-selective independent school and we accept students from Reception to Year 13. Students can join in, at the beginning of Key Stage 4 and Key Stage 5, subject to a meeting with the Headteacher. It is also possible to join in at the start of Year 13, again subject to a meeting with the Headteacher and subject teachers to ensure the student has covered similar content to our courses in Year 12.

Students transferring from elsewhere are welcome to visit and/or come for a taster day at any point in the year. If a year group is full, we will place the student on a waiting list and make contact if a place becomes available.

Sixth Form (Year 12)

Entering the 6th form marks a significant transition in a student’s academic journey, offering an environment where learning becomes more specialised and self-directed. This stage emphasises personal growth and the pursuit of individual interests.

With no compulsory Welsh Baccalaureate, Ffynone’s A Level curriculum is rigorous and academic. Every student’s unique potential is nurtured and challenged and entry at Sixth Form is based on GCSE results and an interview with the Headteacher.

Scholarships

Each year a small number of scholarships are awarded based upon academic ability, ability in performing arts, art and/or sport. Applications may be considered throughout the year. Our main Year 7 scholarship examinations occur in the Autumn Term of the preceding year. Please register early for these examinations, as interest is usually very high.

Larger means-tested reductions are very occasionally awarded for exceptional students; these permit wider access to a Ffynone education in keeping with our charitable status. Means-tested school bursaries may be made available to students already registered at Ffynone, in cases of hardship arising due to a change of financial circumstances.
