The Abertawe Festival of Young Musicians 2026 took place between January 30th to February 1st in the Brangwyn Hall, Swansea. https://afym.org.uk/
The Abertawe Festival for Young Musicians is centred on encouraging, nurturing and fostering the musical development of young musicians of any age. This is done by providing both non-competitive and competitive solo and ensemble performance opportunities, for children, to highly experienced adjudicators. Alongside this, there are also ‘Rehearse with the Adjudicator’ classes for string, piano, wind and brass groups. It has been wonderful to see some of our primary pupils taking part for the first time in the ‘Piano and String Concert Classes’, as well as some of our new Year 7 pupils entering the string and piano classes.
Congratulations to Rosie and her sister Sofia for winning the Gold medal in the Senior Duet Class. Equally, to Vinnie, Rosie and Sofia, for gaining a Silver medal in the Senior Ensemble Class. Further congratulations to Rosie for gaining a Silver Medal in the Senior Wind Class, especially as she is only 14. Finally, well done to all the musicians for practising, preparing and showcasing your hard work throughout the weekend.
A huge thank you to Mrs Ramos for the time and dedication she gave to preparing and rehearsing the pupils, and for accompanying them to the Brangwyn Hall. It was truly a fantastic and memorable experience for our youngsters.
