On October 11th, a team of 8 Ffynone students across year groups competed for the first time in the British Schools Score Championships (BSSC) at Gnoll Park, Neath. (https://www.britishorienteering.org.uk/school_competitions).

The event was hosted by Swansea Bay Orienteering Club (https://sboc.org.uk/) who – along with Sport and Health Swansea (https://www.visitswanseabay.com/sport-and-health/) – kindly offered our selected students two training sessions beforehand to prepare them for this exciting new venture.
What is is all about?
The competition tests both individual and team skills in navigating a course using a map. It includes individual competitions by year/gender and team competitions by school/gender. It combines map-reading with cross-country running.

Speed, Strategy & Success!
Each participant only had 45 minutes to get all the markers they could out of 29, having to run long distances and work out where they were.
Considering this was their first official orienteering competition, our students literally smashed records on the day!
