We are delighted to announce that Year 10 student Osian has been awarded Best Male Performance for his role in the short film Happy Snaps at the 10th Femme Filmmakers Festival 2025. https://filmotomy.com/the-winners-of-the-10th-femme-filmmakers-festival-competition/

Happy Snaps, directed by Tyro Heath, also received the Bronze Bell Prize (3rd place) in its category. The festival celebrates and champions exceptional short films created by talented female filmmakers from around the world.
The plot
Happy Snaps tells the moving story of two best friends, Gabriel (played by Osian) and Sami, who live on the Isle of Sheppey on the north Kent coast. Gabriel, who has cerebral palsy, is preparing to move away for a potentially life-threatening operation, though he tells Sami it is because of his mum’s new job.
The film sensitively explores friendship, honesty, and the fears that come with change — beautifully capturing the emotions and uncertainty of what lies ahead for Gabriel.
“Exploring topics including health, rural spaces and growing up, this film captures the genuine care of childhood friendships and offers a sensitive and un-patronising representation of disability and inclusion”. (Source: https://www.intofilm.org/films/20312).

Osian’s acting journey
Osian’s passion for acting has been nurtured from an early age by his dad, a drama teacher. He has been acting since Year 7 and has been actively involved in Musical Theatre. He is also a proud member of the West Glamorgan Youth Theatre. Before stepping into the world of film, Osian explored modelling for a clothing brand and is now represented by an acting agent.
Filming challenges
Balancing schoolwork and filming proved to be one of the biggest challenges for Osian. Fortunately, his parents ensured that most of the filming took place during school holidays. To prepare for his role, he practised lines with his dad and received valuable support from Mrs Walsh, Ffynone’s Drama teacher, who guided him through timed mock auditions and performance techniques.

Osian’s advice for aspiring actors
According to Osian, talent is only part of the journey. He believes success comes from getting yourself out there—networking is essential, such as attending film festivals, meeting industry professionals, and building connections with people who can help shape your career.
Looking ahead
Osian hopes to continue developing his acting career, with ambitions to one day appear in major feature films.
We are very proud of Osian’s achievement and wish him every success in his future film ventures.
