For the first time in many years, our Primary and Secondary pupils came together to deliver a truly magical Carol Service at St James’s Church . Led with passion by the wonderful Mrs Ramos, Head of Music, and the ever-inspiring Mrs McLeod, LAMDA teacher, Ffynone pupils filled the church with music, storytelling, joy, and festive spirit, much to the delight of families, friends, staff and peers.
The orchestra beautifully set the mood for the afternoon, opening the concert with a wonderfully Christmassy atmosphere through pieces such as Elf and Baby, It’s Cold Outside. Then followed a rich variety of readings, songs, poems, and musical performances celebrating the meaning and magic of Christmas.
From traditional favourites like a stunning rendition of Carol of the Bells by the String Ensemble and the moving Mary, Did You Know? by the Harmony Girls; Year 9’s Santa Baby or the uplifting Sax Duo’s Stop the Cavalry; to contemporary classics such as Do They Know It’s Christmas? performed by Years 7–9, and the ever-popular All I Want for Christmas Is You by the talented Year 11 Band with Darcey on vocals; there was truly something for everyone to enjoy.
One of the most heart-warming moments was watching Reception and Year 1 singing their hearts out, perfectly complimented by Year 2’s joyful Jingle Bells. The Primary Choir brought smiles all around with their brilliant performance of Brussels Sprout Blues, and Year 7 kept everyone laughing with their witty and wonderfully delivered ‘Christmas Thank Yous’.
In true Ffynone spirit, the service offered something for everyone, appealing to every taste and age group. It was a charming, uplifting afternoon that truly celebrated the talent, enthusiasm and strong sense of community shared by Ffynone pupils across all year groups.
Thank you to Mrs Ramos and Mrs McLeod for turning the afternoon into such an enchanting occasion.
